Why can't we all get along?
Being new to motherhood, I feel like I'm torn at every decision. Everything seems to have two opposing viewpoints. It makes for a lot of confusion for a first-time mom. I won't even get started on breastfeeding. All of the experts are in agreement-breastfeeding is best for baby in terms of antibodies when compared to feeding formula. Yet the other day while looking on a local mom web site, a mom was saddended that she had breastfed her 4.5 year old daughter for the last time and there was a huge heated discussion from women that felt it inappropriate to breastfeed for that long and then the heated discussions took off when someone called it "gross" to do it for that long. Many women came to the defense of the woman who had practiced extended breastfeeding.
My little one is getting immunized this week-immunizations are a whole topic that is also surrounded by controversy. Some parents claim that immunizations caused their child to be autistic.
The controversy continues on the impact of moms that stay at home versus moms that work and what is best for the baby.
I have had my hands full adjusting to motherhood and the tremendous life-changing event it is to have a baby. I can barely keep up with diaper changes, middle of the night feedings, and every day events that I haven't had much time to get into the debates. All I know is that we need to do what's best for us and what we believe to be best for our baby and our little one. Each baby is unique, each family is unique. I just wonder why in this day and age why we can't just embrace differences and knowing that what works for you may not work for someone else-you may not need to know the reason for why this person did this or that. I would just hope that no one judges me for the decisions that my husband and I make for our little one and our family.
