Dim Sum and Pizza and Critics
I love to try new restaurants. I always love the adventure of a great find-whether it be a restaurant or just a really nifty off-the-wall bookstore. Even though I grew up in a small town, until I worked in a different city near my small town and heard from co-workers of the hidden gems, I would never have known about these places.
Since I'm not currently working and only temped, I have heard odds and ends about little places. Part of the problem that I have is that I am geographically challenged. Luckily, my mom knows that our whole family is directionally-challenged (maybe with the exception of my brother) and decided to invest in a GPS. I always thought of such items as a luxury item until today when after 6 months of holding a photocopy of a Dim Sum place decided to take my parents with my on a little adventure.
The GPS took us directly to the Dim Sum restaurant. I haven't had Dim Sum in years so I delighted in the fact that I could get Dim Sum without having to go to Chinatown in Chicago. My parents know what the good stuff is, so they thought the Dim Sum was mediocre. I thought that it was decent, so I was content and the baby seemed content to try something new.
Over the weekend, my husband, parents, and I decided to try a new pizza place. They also served other Italian items and we were excited since the new owners were from New Jersey. The service sucked and the pizza was not even close to what you'd expect from a former New Jersey pizzeria owner. Being in this day and age, I chose to go on-line to write a critical review and can't wait until they are listed in Yahoo so I can really give them my ranking.
My parents slaved for many years in their Chinese American restaurant, and I spent many of my teenage years working on the weekends at their restaurant and I prided myself on giving good service. My parents had many repeat customersa and often times when I would be at the mall with them, they would run into an old customer as if they were dear friends.
It's funny...my parents weren't so critical when we went to the pizza place but yet when we went to the Dim Sum place with Chinese cuisine, they were very critical. I guess in a way we're all critics.
I was just happy to go on an adventure with them...someplace new and a memory that I can impart in my mind.
