The First Time
Sometimes when I can't sleep at night, I'll think about writing on my blog and what I want to say on my blog.
Yesterday I called my cousin and spoke with him and his wife. They have an 8 month old baby and I naturally asked questions on how their son was doing and other parenting questions. My wife's cousin mentioned that the first few weeks are really the toughest because of the baby waking up so much during the night, getting used to a new baby, but she said that she already misses him being a tiny infant.
After I spoke to her, I thought about the firsts that I have already gone through and can never go back to. I always prided myself on one that would keep a pregnancy journal. I received one as a gift for Christmas, but I have yet to write down any real details of what I'm feeling...and I really should because I don't want to forget my thoughts and feelings. I do have some blog entries, but I would like to keep something else to maybe pass on to my daughter or son someday.
Some of the firsts that have already occurred:
Taking my first pregnancy test and realizing it really is positive
Telling my husband that we're having a baby
Going to the doctor's office to confirm a pregnancy
Going to the OB/GYN office for my first appointment
Feelings of fatigue from the first trimester
My first bouts of morning sickness
Rubbing my belly knowing that there is a baby growing inside
Realizing that there is a strange straight line running down my stomach
Changes to your breasts
Hearing the heartbeat for the first time
There are still a lot of firsts yet to occur during the pregnancy and after the baby is born, yet I can never get back the first times of things that have already happened so far.
I realize being about halfway through the pregnancy that there is a lot more yet to be experienced, yet more to come once the baby arrives.
The first time is always unique in any situation in life since there is only one first time.
