A Perfect Weekend

About a month or so ago, I had my second solo trek with my son on an overnight alone. Well, kind of but not really. My best girlfriend came for a visit and everyone else went away.

I had so many plans for us. We went to an Easter Egg hunt for adults, we went to an Easter Egg hunt for kids, I wanted to try a new restaurant, I wanted to go to an indoor pool with my son and friend, I wanted to watch a DVD I had rented, I wanted to try out Mario Kart, and I wanted to make Easter eggs. I know it doesn't sound like much, but accomplishing one thing with a toddler sometimes is a huge undertaking.

I was only alone with my son for one night. This allowed my girlfriend and I to go to an adult Easter Egg Hunt. We came armed with flashlights and bags and were surprised at the huge turnout. Disappointingly, we both only found two eggs each. And each one only had candy inside. Yet we both had fun. It was great to experience something as an adult that you experienced as a child.

The next morning, my hubby and his dad left to go out of town. My mother-in-law was already out of town visiting my sister-in-law. I wasn't sure when my son would wake up and we had to be at the children's Easter Egg Hunt at a certain time. Of course he slept in and I wondered howI would get him fed, dressed, and out the door in time for the Easter Egg Hunt, plus I was meeting some other moms at the Easter Egg Hunt.

Surprisingly, we got out the door just in time to get to the Egg Hunt. I was able to get my son dressed and my girlfriend fed him in the backseat of the car and sat next to him. Getting dressed doesn't sound like anything huge, but these days my son protests clothes like you wouldn't believe. Getting him dressed has become a challenge since about 18 months of age. It was a lot of fun and my son even won a prize.

Afterwards, we went swimming. It took a good half hour for us all to get dressed (swim diaper, swim clothes, etc), but we finally made it happen. At first my son was a little afraid of the water, but he quickly warmed up to it.

We ended up going out to eat afterwards at this really quaint tea place. I wasn't sure if my son would sit still, but he also was a perfect gentleman. I think the combination of running around at an Easter egg hunt, then running around at the pool, he was good to sit still for a little bit. We were able to eat lunch and have conversations. Towards the end he was getting antsy and he fell sound asleep on the way home. He also took a long nap and my friend and I were able to play Mario Kart. Oh, and after the adult Easter Egg Hunt I got to watch the DVD I had rented.

Later that evening was a gorgeous night. We decided to go to a local park and I felt invigorated. We ended up jogging for a little bit in little spurts. My son loved going fast in his stroller and kept saying, "More, more!" I could only jog for a few moments before having to stop, but it inspired me to start jogging (I haven't done this yet) with him. I'm on the search for a good, used jogging stroller.

When we came home, we made the Easter eggs. It was a perfect weekend with a dear friend.

It's at these times where I really feel like I can handle another child. Ah, I'll save that for another post.
