Happy Birthday to me!

I have had a really nice week with my in-laws this week, which coincidentally (spelled wrong I know) fell when my birthday fell.

The week has gone by fast, almost too fast. So now I am one year older and hopefully one year wiser. I think I have one more year before my age goes into the next age bracket when filling out survey forms.

My wonderful husband was gone on my birthday to work and then to school, so I was extremely thankful for the company. My dear in-laws were kind enough to offer watching my son so I could go pamper myself. I thought about getting a pedicure, but the weather will soon be turning cold and I wouldn't be able to show off my toes. My husband told me to get a massage, but instead I opted to go see a movie. I had a free coupon from my Entertainment Book that was only good on my birthday to see a free movie. Something I would do on a weekly basis as a teenager is now such a luxury. I also used a coupon for a free small popcorn when purchasing a drink, and I delighted in such indulgences. I decided to go see The Secret Life of Bees. Without giving away too much of the plot or the story, I recall during the movie feeling entirely lucky and blissful about my life.

One line in the movie is, "Everyone wants to be loved." It is the simplest yet one of the most complex human emotions and how truly lucky and blessed I feel to have love in my life. I thought about my husband who had woken up that morning and whispered so tenderly "Happy Birthday Momma Kat" to me and had given me kisses on my cheeks and my son who so willingly to copy everything we do these days also kissed my cheek and said "Mwah!" I thought about my family-the phone call I got from my mom and dad wishing me a happy birthday. My sister also called and I had gotten emails and cards from my friends in this world. Plus in the morning when I stepped on the scale, I was delighted to see that the number was lower (not much lower) than the last time I had stepped on a scale. I thought about my wonderful in-laws who were so happy to spend time with their grandson while giving me a much-needed break in order for me to re-charge my self.

It has been a week of reflection, as usual about turning older and motherhood and just being blessed so many ways in my life.
